13 Sept: Harry's at the Esplanade

Was supposed to meet Colin and LV for a catch up beer.
And then came along the gang to celebrate David's 27th birthday!

Birthdays are nice when you don't grow old. I celebrated my birthday on Wednesday. It was nice and simple. At my age, I just want to stop all my birthday celebrations from the time I turned 21. It's not so fun anymore growing up, and old. :(
The metabolism rate is dropping, the memory is failing, the wrinkles are creasing.
How more disastrous can this be for a woman???

Ok, on a happier note, we get wiser and more experienced as one ages. Or so we hope.

But whoever said being wiser and experience-packed was any good?
Remember the times when you found a dollar coin and dream of how your day would be filled with chocolate and candy?
A dollar coin means hardly anything to you anymore.

Remember the times when you thought forgetting your crayons was the worse sin that would be followed by BAD-ASS punishment?
Now you realise there are worse sins like rape and murder.

Remember the times when recess/break time meant stuffing your face with junkfood and go play catch with your friends?
Break means catching up on sleep or schoolwork. Both of which is usually done in the library.

Club Chinois at Orchard Parade Hotel serves up fusion East-meets-west cuisine. Thought we should give it a try.
Pretty interesting, but I'm not one to rave about fusion food, go if you're bored of the same-old stuff. Anyway, here are the pics:

I'm back in Germany. For the 2nd time in summer.
Well, I spent slightly more than a week in Singapore. And it's already getting to me. So I had to leave again. Haha!

Well, that would have been the reason. But the most part, it's because Gags is here on business. And he invited me to come along. Whee~~! I'm the luckiest girl!

Eileen's bf, Lester, invited us to Lunar at Clarke Quay. He has a bottle of Black Label and we were instructed to finish it. We didn't do so badly, we managed half the bottle. It left me a little buzzed, especially with my tolerance for alcohol. But at least it didn't go over the top.

With Cynthia on the nice bumpy red seats. It's the Chinatown's Karaoke lounge in the heart of Clarke Quay. It wasn't really quite what I expected, but I love Cantopop nevertheless. I have a thing for men who speak Cantonese (a Chinese dialect).

Instead of spending 30mins rolling my hair, and another 3 hours for it to be done. I should just go to the salon. But I can't decide if I should get it done. A permanent perm. Wahhahha! heh.. *no pun intended* But what if I want straight hair on Mondays, curly hair on Tuesdays, and so on? I can't alternate hairstyles anymore. Of all the things going on in the world, this is now my biggest dilemma. Heh.

I arrived at Zouk, Phuture. There was a line. But it was manageable (I never spell right). Anyway, I've seen longer lines.

My paper was due. And I had to make a trip down to school just to submit the hardcopy. Oh well... And I decided to take some pics to show you guys what my uni looks like. This is a really bad picture. It doesn't even show you anything. But I get horribly bad angles from the main roads. Hahhaha. Nevertheless...

After submitting the paper. First entrance into Uni on the right. I usually take the second entrance cos it's nearer to my school of arts and social sciences.

Ah.. that's the slightly nicer view of the entrance. But still... it does my Uni no justice at all - this pic. It's alot bigger than the one in Konstanz. Like 10000000 times bigger. Hehheeh. The funniest incident was the night out with Colin. We were sitting at the bar having some drinks at 9pm waiting for his friends. And I started feeling sick and eventually threw up at 10pm. That's how sad it is.

Back home in Singapore: First day of classes

When I said the pavements in Singapore are free of litter, I wasn't kidding. This 2 pics were taking at the bus-stop while I waited for my bus to school. One of the things I truly miss about Konstanz is that buses came on time! And there's a schedule for it. There's no time-table for buses here, and buses could take anywhere from 20 seconds to 45mins to arrive. :(

A ride in the bus. TV on the go is available on the bus too. Sometimes it gets annoying because the volume of the tv programme that's playing is alarmingly loud (depending on where you're seated)

The panic begins...

I still have 1/4 of the suitcase free. But I have 4 times that space worth of stuff.
It's ok, we'll manage. ;) Me and the stuff, I mean.

That red fat pupae is my newly acquired friend!!!
But the rest of the stuff lying around and in the cupboard and everywhere else, still has to go into that 1/4 space in the black suitcase. :-\
It's times like these when I'd like to believe that miracles DO happen.

Yes, and those too. But it's good that I cleared quite a bit already. Look at the almost empty wardrobe!

Next up, taking pictures down. It's sucky that we have to paint our rooms before we leave. It has to be squeaky clean and the walls have to be really really really WHITE! Not a speck of black dust. Or anything for that matter. And the Hausmeister inspects the wall with a magnifying glass to make sure he gets every corner.

So anyway, I'm gonna take down the pictures and bring them home. They're going on my wall at home, to add little memories of how life was in Europahaus, and when I used to call this tiny 3x6m room HOME.

It kinda sucks having to take down stuff like that. You struggle to get through the new room, the new surrounding, the whole culture shock, and once you're all comfortable, you take off again.

I hate moving. And PACKING!

But I'm so looking forward to going home. I haven't been home for 6 months. I know it's not a long time and I shouldn't be complaining. But there's really nothing like going home.

So I tear off the pictures. Packing the collage would just be disastrous and difficult.

The seafood that you can get here is all frozen. And the shrimps are about half the size of your pinkie. :( Oh god, I miss home so much. But soon! Whee~~~ *dances around frantically*

Anyway, I digress. Back to the seafood pasta. Look at that! Shrimps and mussel are love.

When I first came here, I didn't know what "seafood" was called in German. So when I wanted to express my love for seafood, I would say, "Ich liebe diese tier von die Meer essen." My German language teacher would scream at me for having 100000000 errors in that sentence, but whatever, I got my message across. :)
By the way, that means, "I love to eat these animals from the sea."

11 Jan 08: Green Curry & Choc Chip Cookies

Michelle wanted to bake some chocolate chip cookies. Whee!!! I'm so excited! I don't know how to bake yet, but it wouldn't be long before I shall learn. :)

We didn't really intend for the cookies to flatten out so much and stick to one another side by side, but oh well, shit happens. :p But the end product was YUMMILICIOUS! =)

Freshly baked ones were crispy on the outside, and chewy on the inside! LOVE!!!!

Herr Hausaufgaben ist krank (sick). So he gets chicken soup instead of green curry. But he ate too many chocolate chip cookies cos they were so good. That's really not good for his flu though. But how can you resist? :)

The ice-skating rink is out in the open unlike at home. Here, there's sun shining and the ice is still frozen. I love it! It feels nicer than skating inside this enclosed centre.

It was also Bingo night. The announcer was some Irish person and he had a funny accent when he spoke both English and German. Which made the marking of numbers extremely challenging that after a while, you just give up.

Candy biscuit from home

This little sweet things measure about 1.5cm by 1cm, with a height of 2 - 2.5cmcm depending how how much sweet candy is on top.
It has a biscuit base with sweet colourful hard sugaring on top.
One of the many delights I used to eat when I was a kid (maybe around 3 to 6 years old).
My mum sent a packet of them to me.

Home sweet home...

It's a nice feeling to come back home.
Although this room isn't really home home, but it's a nice feeling to be back.
To have stuff that belongs to you, to know where to find what you need, to recognise the mixture of smells (your sheets/your freshly washed clothes/your moisturizer/your own EDT/your stinky socks).
You know how smells brings back memories, I was reminded of it felt like when I first saw my room on 2nd September 2007.
I was able to remember my thoughts that day. I remember thinking, "This is where I will spend the next few months. A whole new experience away from home. And this IS home. For now at least."

I leave in 23 days.

The countdown begins. I can hardly wait.
Maybe if I find time and my ass doesn't hurt anymore from sitting on this hard wooden seat, I might blog about why I miss home (and I mean Singapore) so much.

Asian cuisine in Germany for the first time

The packaging for the chopsticks had instructions in French on how to use them.

They were at it the whole night.

He made me stick it on my nose after drinking that small bottle of some sweet alcohol thingy. I had to tilt my head backwards cos the cap kept falling off my nose. See, it's difficult for caucasians to understand, I have a button nose. It's really not that easy making a cap stay on it. :p

And I played with his old glasses and tried to look nerdy. And he said, "You look really Chinese."

Uhh.... DUH! I AM Chinese.

On a side note, one thing that people here don't understand is that I can be Chinese, but I don't come from China. Then they get all confused. Like ???????????????

"You're Chinese but you don't come from China?"

Yes, Chinese is a race. And I was born in Singapore. My parents were born in Singapore, so were my grandparents. So there!

And he tried too. But he just looks like he ate something sour. :p

And then we played against Schnelle cos he was always winning. And I sucked at it. :p

It turned midnight and we played fireworks!

My first fireworks and fire crackers. Those are banned in Singapore.

I know the stuff I'm holding isn't fireworks or fire crackers, but I'm talking about the stuff I'd play AFTERWARDS!

Half of the party were not in this pic. You do the math. It was a nice cosy dinner party. I like parties where I know more than half the people cos that makes me really comfortable and I'm not afraid to burp. :p Who cares about table manners with your closest friends?

I made salad along with some other dishes. And people were asking for the recipe. I'm so proud of myself. People actually like my salad! Whee~! So instead of having to repeat the recipe, here it is:
